Delvon Lamarr

Self-taught Seattle organist (b. Delvon Dumas) and leader of the delvon-lamarr-organ-trio. Originally a drummer and trumpet player, he switched to the Hammond B-3 at age 22, learning largely by watching keyboardist Joe Doria while drumming in Doria's band. He has perfect pitch and plays multiple instruments.^[raw/articles/wikipedia-delvon-lamarr-organ-trio.md]

His playing style is groove-first rather than virtuosic-display-first: 1960s soul-jazz vocabulary in the jimmy-smith / Baby Face Willette lineage, locked to the drums with no bassist — the classic organ-trio format carried into the streaming era. The trio's business model (wife Amy Novo as manager, Colemine Records, YouTube and KEXP live-session discovery) is itself a template for the modern-organ-scene.
