Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio (DLO3)

Seattle soul-jazz organ trio founded in 2015, the breakout act of the 2010s-2020s soul-jazz revival. Manager Amy Novo (Lamarr's wife) built it from the Seattle scene into a worldwide touring act with Billboard-charting albums, all on Colemine Records (Karma Chief family). Their sound is deliberately retro — 1960s organ jazz à la jimmy-smith and Baby Face Willette, the strut of Booker T. & the M.G.'s and The Meters — executed with modern production and YouTube/KEXP-era reach.^[raw/articles/wikipedia-delvon-lamarr-organ-trio.md]

Lineup history

The only constant is Lamarr on Hammond B-3. Guitar: Colin Higgins (2015), then jimmy-james (2015–2022) whose seven-year stint defined the band's sound, Miles "Smiles" Harris (2023–2025), Brice Calvin (2025–). Drums rotated even faster: David McGraw (2015–2018), Doug Octa Port (2018–2021), Dan "Vanilla" Weiss of The Sextones (2021–2022), Julian "Thunderfoot" MacDonough (2022–2025), Ashley Ickes (2025–).^[raw/articles/wikipedia-delvon-lamarr-organ-trio.md] (The 2025 press listing of drummer Grant Schroff of Polyrhythmics on the "Chicken Leg" single suggests further fluidity; confidence: medium.)

Discography

  • Close But No Cigar (Novo, 2016; Colemine reissue 2018) — #1 US Contemporary Jazz Albums
  • Live at KEXP! (2018, recorded 2017)
  • I Told You So (Colemine, 2021) — #1 Contemporary Jazz, #3 Jazz Albums
  • Cold As Weiss (Colemine, 2022)
  • Live In Loveland! (2022, recorded 2018)
  • "Chicken Leg" / "If I Could" single (2025, from the I Told You So sessions)^[raw/articles/wikipedia-delvon-lamarr-organ-trio.md]

The often-repeated claim of a 2019 album Close Your Eyes is not supported by the band's discography; the sophomore studio album was I Told You So (2021). Confidence: high on the discography above.

Where are they now

Jimmy James left in 2022 to form parlor-greens; Lamarr rebuilt the trio and continues touring and releasing on Colemine. See modern-organ-scene for the wave DLO3 spearheaded.
